The Pandora FMS plugin library served its purpose well, but it faced clear limitations: basic search functionality, a catalog centered almost exclusively on Discovery plugins, and limited console integration. With version 800 LTS, the old library is replaced by the new Marketplace, accessible at marketplace.pandorafms.com and fully integrated into the web console.
What the Marketplace Includes
This transition is more than just cosmetic. The catalog now extends beyond Discovery plugins to include report templates, monitoring policies, and other reusable configuration elements.
For administrators, this means the ability to download standard monitoring policies for specific systems or ready-to-use report templates directly, eliminating the need to build them from scratch. The Discovery plugin catalog remains fully available, now part of a much broader ecosystem of components.
Console Integration
Direct console integration allows components to be downloaded within the platform itself. This streamlines the workflow by removing the need to manually search the web, download files, and re-upload them to the console. The entire process now happens within your active working environment.
Changes in .disco Package Distribution
With the launch of the Marketplace, Discovery packages are no longer bundled with the automatic Pandora FMS distribution. This is a strategic move to reduce installation package size and decouple the plugin update cycle from the platform’s core releases.
While these packages remain accessible via the Marketplace or the console, they are now updated independently. This is a critical point for planning your 800 LTS upgrade: commonly used
.disco packages must be updated via the Marketplace after migration, as they are not included by default in the new version.
Separating the plugin lifecycle from the platform provides long-term benefits: Marketplace components can now be updated without waiting for a new Pandora FMS release, and the platform remains lightweight, avoiding unnecessary plugins that your specific environment might not require.
