What does the Pandora FMS license include?
The Pandora FMS license includes technical support, updates (patches and new versions), access to the full library of online modules and plugins with more than 500 plugins, access to the vendor’s knowledge base with hundreds of technical articles, troubleshooting guides and specific tips, and access to the ONE code, so you can view and modify the source code according to your needs.
How many versions of Pandora FMS exist?
MaaS is a ONE version offered as Monitoring as a Service, hosted and maintained by Pandora FMS, accessible via the Internet.
NMS is a version focused on network monitoring, without other functionalities such as user experience, inventory, or log collection.
RMM is a version focused on remote monitoring and management, specifically adapted for IT service providers or managed service providers (MSPs).
ONE is the full-featured version of Pandora FMS.
Corporate is a full version specifically tailored to the customer’s needs, often requiring custom development and specialized solutions not included in the standard ONE version.
What is an agent?
An agent is any monitored device, whether in a physical environment—such as a router, switch, or server—or in a virtualized environment, where each Virtual Machine with a unique IP address is considered a Host.
Is there a minimum number of devices required to obtain the license?
Yes. The minimum license for purchase with technical support includes 100 agents.
Do I have to pay every year?
With the perpetual license version, you can choose not to renew the license. In that case, you won’t have access to support, updates, or patches. You will also lose access to the Enterprise module library and the knowledge base, but the software will continue to function at full capacity.
With the pay-per-use model, if payment is not made, the software will stop working.
If the license cost is based on the number of agents/servers, is there a maximum number of modules/monitors?
An agent is an information container capable of monitoring 50 or even 1000 different devices if needed. For this reason, there is no limit to the number of devices or modules monitored by a single agent.
This approach is especially useful when monitoring network equipment. For example, a 24-port switch can easily report on a hundred modules. It also makes monitoring backbone routers easier, as you can supervise hundreds of modules with the same agent.
What factors should I consider to decide the number of agents I need?
Since the licensing model is based on the number of agents and not on the number of monitored metrics, you might think it’s a good idea to monitor all your devices with a single agent. This could work well if you only need to check very simple things, such as device connectivity.
However, if you need more detailed information, it would be better to group fewer devices per agent. This way, the information will be much more organized and structured, and the experience will be more agile, faster, and practical, greatly simplifying your work.
What if network devices are monitored via SNMP — does that count as an agent?
Yes, an agent can be a router, a switch, an access point, a firewall, a NAS, etc.
How are multiple Pandora FMS installations licensed?
If it is a redundant (active/passive) setup, only one license is required. However, if it is a multi-site installation (export server, Metaconsole, active/active cluster), you will need a license for each independent server.
Is Pandora FMS an On-premise or SaaS solution?
Pandora FMS is a traditional on-premise software product, meaning you purchase a license and install and maintain it on your own infrastructure. It is available under both “perpetual” and “subscription” licensing models.
We also offer a pay-as-you-go usage model as a cloud service called MaaS (Monitoring as a Service), in which case we provide the software, the server, and handle updates and management on behalf of the customer.
