  • Trouble with email alerts and exchange

    Posted by r3volol on April 16, 2014 at 17:21

I can’t seem to get email alerts to send through my exchange 2010 server. Here are the settings I have in /etc/pandora/pandora_server.conf :

    mta_address 10.48.1.6
    mta_port 25
    mta_user [email protected]
    mta_pass ***********
    mta_auth LOGIN
    mta_from Pandora FMS

Is there anything else I’m missing?

    Hello

The mta_address should be the mail server address not the ip. It might be mail.utfcu.org or [email protected]  for an example.

    Regards
    Ivo

    changed mta_address to:

    mta_address webmail.utfcu.org

I then rebooted the server but am still not receiving alert messages.

This is the same address we use to setup phones to use email.

    Hello

In the mta_user you should input a valid user account for your mail server. Then restart the pandora_server (sudo /etc/init.d/pandora_server restart). You should edit the action for the alert inputing the email where you want the email to be received. Once done force the execution of the alert.

    Regards
    Ivo

I have the alert setup correctly and performed all of the steps you have outlined but still no luck receiving the alert. I have verified I can login to our OWA with the [email protected] account.

Are there any logs that might shed some light on what the problem is?

    Hello

There are logs of pandora located at /var/log/pandora/. Try setting up a gmail acount in your pandora server conf file. You should also test if the machine where the server is being installed has conectivity and if the acount of [email protected] can sent messages. Take a look at the mta_port you might be using a different port rather than the port 25.

    Ivo

I have verified that port 25 is the working port for SMTP. I also have sent a successful telnet email from the PandoraFMS server using [email protected] to my personal email. Seems to be something with Pandora.

The log shows the following error:

2014-04-22 18:17:29 localhost.localdomain [V1] [ERROR] Sending email to [email protected] with subject [PANDORA] Alert RECOVERED for CRITICAL status on WEST – ROUTER / Host Latency

If you are trying to relay through exchange you may have to setup a new hub transport to allow relaying.
Here is what I have used to setup for relaying from other internal servers to allow them to pass email through my exchange 2010 boxes.

    http://exchangeserverpro.com/how-to-configure-a-relay-connector-for-exchange-server-2010/

Also you can set a fake user name /email account in ad.  something like [email protected].  Then search the logs for zorro.  Make it easier to find the log entries this way.

I followed that and created a new relay (already had a relay setup, but never though to create one specifically for the PandoraFMS server), but I am still not getting alerts and the same error message is being logged on the Pandora FMS server. Any other suggestions? I wish Pandora gave a little more informative error.

Wish I could help more.  I am not even getting log messages.  I have another post in these forums for sending email issues.  Currently I am trying to get the default setup to work.  I have reconfigured the firewall to let FMS got out to the web but still no logs for me.

Did you telnet from the FMS server to the exchange server to send a test email out that way?

Yup, telnet from the Pandora FMS server using the pandorafms email account on our exchange server sends correctly to my personal inbox.

    *edited for clarity

    Hello

You can’t use webmail in mta address. It must be mail.utfcu.org or mail.utfcu.com
It’s like setting Outlook to work with your email server.

    Regards
    Ivo

    Hello

I see. Do you have pandora running inside a virtual machine?

No, it is running on a physical server. I used the latest Appliance CD to install.

Hey check /var/log mailog and see if you got any errors.  I finally able to get log messages and for some reason the postfix is trying to connect with the outside IP address and not the internal ip address.  I am still working on this but you may be running into the same issue.

    Hello

Take a look at that and make sure there isn’t any conectivity issues with the pandora server system.

I am still having problems with this. Now, I don’t have any emails even showing in the /var/log/maillog file when an alert is triggered from Pandora. Don’t know what that is happening now.

Also, is there a way to use anonymous auth from Pandora? I have commented out the password and auth portions of the pandora_server.conf file but that still doesn’t seem to be working. I can send mail anoymosuly from the Pandora server by running the following command:

echo test | mail -s test [email protected]

    Hello

    r3volol execute the following commands:
    setenforce 1
    /etc/init.d/iptables stop

And then try to see if the email sending is functioning correctly. If not send me the pandora_server.conf file located in /etc/pandora/ to the following email [email protected]

    Regards
    Ivo
