  • Temperature Monitors

Posted by onedeej on February 19, 2011 at 04:35

Is there another type of temperature monitor that is compatible with Pandora, maybe a specific chip that it can accurately read? Essentially, we are a company who are considering using Pandora Enterprise, but we need to be able to use an external temperature monitor to gather readings for our systems. I know that the OctoPod is available, a vast majority of our clients are on strict budgets, and by the time we have installed most of our other equipment, the budget is usually met or exceeded. The cost of the Enterprise monitoring solution will be absorbed by our company, but any equipment charges are seperate and therefore passed down to the clientel. We use these systems for CCTV DVRs, essentially, they are just PCs which record video all day long. Some of the clients have an affinity of putting them outside which can reach an excess of 120F (~49C) in our area.

I believe you can achieve this by simple WMI commands. I’m not sure, but i know applications such as Speedfan check the temprature as well.

Ive used speedfan, and SIW for checking temps before. Unfortunately, ambient temperature can be mis-reported on some of these Winbond chips. I have a set of motherboards that read 127c as a constant reading for the Northbridge and Ambient temperatures. This obviously cant be the case with the processor and hard drives running at about 40c which is why I have been asked to implement an external temerature monitor.

Ah. Well i guess you should be looking for is something like this:
    http://www.pcsensor.com/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=15

But you would need to make your own script / software to pass the values through to Pandora.

I can’t help you any further, my knowledge stops here.

    Good luck!
