You need a Nokia compatible with Gnokii (http://www.gnokii.org) and a USB data cable, Gnokii supports a vast number of Nokia phones, with Gnokii you cand send SMS from command line, just that you need to able to send alerts directly from Pandora Servers, avoiding usage of SMS gateways or costly hardware systems to send SMSs.

    For example

echo “PANDORA: Server XXXX is down at XXXXX” | gnokii –sendsms 555123123

Of course, you have much more options. For example you could send a picture, or a WAP url to a modified Pandora FMS “light” console to see data, even a Webcam snapshot capture if you mangle the image.

    GNOKII SMS options:

    –sendsms destination [–smsc message_center_number |
    –smscno message_center_index] [-r|–remote] [-8|8bit]
    [-C|–class n] [-v|–validity n] [-l|–long n]
    [-i|–imelody] [-a|–animation file;file;file;file]
    [-o|–concat this;total;serial] [-w|–wappush url]

This has been tested with a Nokia 6030 phone, sending SMS alerts when our internet connection is Down. The Nokia N63030 uses model 6510 in gnokiirc file, and it takes about 5 secs to send a SMS.
