Just Curious is it possible to seperate the server out in the open source version ? For instance if I wanted to run a seperate server to run the icmp checks and report back the results to the main server is that possible. My reason is I would like to do more of a realtime monitoring on certain devices rather than every minute and I noticed anything under 30 sec puts alot of strain on the cpu of the main server.

SURE !, is just the idea behind the design: to have multiple server instances, with different configurations on the same host or different hosts.
