    Hi all,
i start testing with pandora (2.0 beta vmware) and i look the docs.

it is impressive software but i don’t understand how to start with mi network.

there is a step by step procedure to clean the vmware config and start basic monitor with the 1st network and the 1st windows or linux server?

Documents are very detailed for advanced operations but … how to start ? i missing something?

    Thanks all.

I have another question, what is the tcpip port used by the remote agent ? There is a support other this useful forum and not really good documentation?

You might want to check the documentation out:

What? Old? That’s the 2.0 documentation which works for Pandora 2.0 which is the one shipped in the vmware
To do basic task you just need to read:

Hi manu and thanks for response

but i have already read it, the keepalive agent didn’t start, the recon server didn’t recon , the map continue to show example system and not mine….

i think is a good product, but i don’t understand the base philosofy and the docs are not useful in this step, yes they talk of structure and db but i need some step basic like:

    to remove example system: one… two… etc…
    to create a keeplive: one.. two… three…etc….

after sometimes i will go away for more sophisticated feature…

    thanks

    Hi Marco,

If you want to use a monitoring system you have to understand how it works, obviously not how the database works, but at least how to run the servers.

The above steps are from the documentation, isn’t it clear enough?:

Steps to define a new agent with a network module:

    1. Configure and start Pandora FMS servers.
    2. Log into Pandora FMS Web Console as administrator, create an agent in Administration -> Manage Agents -> Create Agent.
    3. Fill basic fields, like agents’ name (very important, because this MUST be the same as reported by Pandora FMS agents). IP address (that it’s used by recon server to identify existing systems and used by Network Server for default network module fields.
    4. Define a existent Network Server for this agent. If there is no server assigned to this agent, it will be impossible to execute network modules for this agent.
    5. If you setup this in learning mode, modules will be imported from data coming from Pandora FMS agents.
    6. Install your first network module using a predefined network module (called Network Component), choose ICMP latency, then click on “Update”.
    7. Review all fields and click “Add”.
    8. Start your Pandora FMS agent, and wait for the server to process data. If everything is OK, you should be able to view the data in the data view and also in the main view, after few seconds.

    We even have screenshots.

    Didn’t you read that?

uhmm, yes i read it but i not try because befora install agent on servers i wanna look this tool, so i think to start from a simple keepalive monitor to ping my server, just to start.

i need agent also for the agent_keepalive?
i configure agent with agent_keepalive module, and setup agent with ip of target server and all the pandora server each for type.

    but the agent didn’start.

also strange (for me… maybe right) is that in manage server every server didn’t have ip but all server seem ok (not pandora_Plugin is red..)

another simple task is a recon of the lan, i create a recon task with my lan parameter and basic monitoring profile, but network map show only pandora server and the target of my keepalive.

    thanks for you patience…

First off, to ping your server

Do you have the network server running?

Same with the recon, is it running?

So then to ping an agent
Just create the agent, put the name, ip ASSIGN A NETWORK SERVER to that agent.

Then, manage modules, create a network module, select “host alive” click in “get data” then, go down and “update”
    There you are

No, the keepalive agent is for pandora inner working not for the user 😉

Well, it’s red cause it’s not running:

    /etc/init.d/pandora_plugin start
