  • HTML Emails Broken – 6.0 SP4

Posted by AusAl on December 4, 2016 at 03:02

My HTML Emails are now broken since upgrading from 6.0 SP3 to SP4. They worked fine on SP3.

My work email and microsoft hotmail account is just displaying the source code rather than showing my pretty html design.

Hope we get a fix for this soon. Thanks.

Just wondering if anyone is looking into this issue?

    Thanks, Al.

    Hello AusAl,

There is a recent feature that allows you to choose between “basic” and “advanced” on the email action configuration, this may be causing the issue. Take a look at it so you can modify it as you want.

    Kind regards,
    Antonio.

    Hi Antonio,

I have just spent some time testing email alerts in ‘basic’ and ‘advanced’ and it doesn’t make any difference. Both my work email and hotmail are receiving text (html code).

I really want my nice html back. It was working beautifully in 6.0 SP3. Ever since SP4 it has not worked.

I hope we can get a fix soon!

    Al.

    Antonio,

I have just noticed a problem. When I configure an alert action the view keeps defaulting to “Basic” and shows the code in the text box. If I switch it to “Advanced” and select “Update” then go back to configure again, it is flipping back to “Basic”.

I cannot get it to stay in “Advanced” view.

    Al.

    Hello AusAl,

Thanks for the comment, I’ve been able to replicate the problem and it is in fact a bug. I’ve raised an internal ticket to fix it and it should be resolved in the near future on some console update.

    Kind regards,
    Antonio.

    Hello AusAl,

After taking a detailed look at it, it appears to don’t be a bug. The “Basic” or “Advanced” option is not saved on the database, it is just a layer that helps building the HTML content of the emails. So if you set “Advanced” and use this or this, when going back to “Basic” you should see it translated into actual HTML, so adapting the emails to this behaviour should result in emails respecting their good looking format.

    Kind regards,
    Antonio.

    Hi Antonio,

Thanks for looking into this further. I don’t quite understand what I need to do to make the nice look html work. What do you mean by “So if you set “Advanced” and use this or this”? Is there supposed to be a link in the bold text?

    Al.

    Hello Al,

No, I mean, those “this” and “this” were bold and italicied ;).

You can either write the email body using the “Advanced” section with the tools that it offers, or go to basic and manually type the HTML. Anyway if you use the advanced tools, when saving you will see it translated into actual HTML code and on “basic” mode.

    Kind regards,
    Antonio.

Upgraded to SP5 and the nice looking html emails are still broken! All I receive is code text in my inbox and it looks ugly.

I know all about the different views in the Create Alert action. Basic shows me the html code. Advanced shows me the nice design. I just don’t know why this doesn’t send the nice looking html anymore.

Does anyone know how to fix this or make it work again??? Please.

    Found the problem.

As soon as I took out this symbol ✗ things started working again. Something must of changed after SP3 when it last worked with how this symbol and the ✓ symbol send.
