FTP setup
Posted by oliverm on January 7, 2008 at 16:51Hi chaps, me again 🙂
Right, the server is running and I’ve added some windows agents to some test machines here. They are all set to use FTP (standard, not SFTP). However, I notice that the ftp port isnt open on the ubuntu box.
The setup just says “If you want to use ftp make sure that you can access the data in folder via ftp”.
Are there any recommendations on which FTP server to use? Should I just apt-get one and set it up ?

Hi Oliver,
Glad you have everything running smoothly.
Regarding the ftp installation, personally, I use pro-ftpd or vsftpd
If you choose the first one, just apt-get install proftpd then /etc/init.d/proftpd start and you’re done.
On the other hand if you decide to choose vsftpd you have to edit vsftpd.conf to allow local system users to be able to write in their directories (by default vsftpd is configured to run as an anonymous)It’s up to you, Pandora, actually doesn’t mind which one to use.
All the best

HAHAHA
I’m not having much luck. Proftpd installed. I can log on to the pandora server via ftp from the test windows box using the pandora username/password (password is correct in the windows agent config).
However, when I start the windows agent, within about 10 seconds, windows reports that it has crashed and offers to check the internet for a solution.
With debugging turned on (or off for that matter), the windows agent log just shows this;
01-07-08 16:19:13: Pandora agent started
Anything else I can try to get the agent working ?

Check IP and directory. Check manually that using FTP client you actually could UPLOAD something.
