  • Can Pandora FMS Do?

Posted by cjwallace on September 26, 2008 at 06:13

    Hi Guys.

I am on the look out for a new network monitoring tool. Been playing with Zabbix but getting more and more pissed off with the lack of forum support and hard it is to do simple tasks. I am really liking the look of pandora FMS. I love the look of the product , Hats off to you

Anyway what i am looking for from a Monitoring tool is thus.

    So can Pandora FMS do?

    1) Monitor Windows disk space

    2) Monitor Windows Memory?

    3) Monitor CPU Usage?

    4) Monitor Windows Services

    5) Monitor Windows Event Viewer Logs?

    6) Monitor Servers via SNMP

    7) Monitor HP servers , disk array , temperature, failed fans , failed disk

Cool Monitor servers uptime via ICMP or better

    9) Network maps. Can i create a network map with icons the represent servers, switches , routers, workstations , internet etc etc

I apologise in advance if this information is in the documentation but i just need a quick overview as to can it do what i want. (i hope so)

Thanks again for any help you can give

    Cheers

    Craig

    1,2,3,4,5,6 yes no problem.
7 very likely, we don’t have an specific agent for HP though, but we could do it, or do it via snmp

“Cool Monitor Server uptime via ICMP” -> yes, we have pings and SLA, besides, with snmp and the correct OID it’s possible to get the uptime.

    9) yes

Seems to me this is not just for a home user but for a company. You might want to know we have an enterprise version.
Please ,write me if you want further information or if we could provide you professional services:

I won’t be able to write you today since I’m heading, unfortunately, to a funeral but I’ll get back to you monday.

    Cheers
    Manuel.

Thanks very much for taking the time to reply. Good news on items 1to 6

7 – How much work would it be to do this? I cant spend loads of time and my company wont pay for this to be setup so just need to know if this is possible or is it some kind of hack to get it working.

    8) Cool Monitor – not sure why i put cool in front of it but good to know anyway

    9) Great news on the network map front.

Correct this is for my company, is there a cost to the enterprise version (im sure there is)

    Thanks again in adavnce

Hold, is that an HP-UX? If so, we do have an agent. Otherwise, if it’s a unix system it shouldn’t be hard to do.

    Yes, there’s a cost.

Sure you can monitor a cool monitor. You have several options: to use a external hardware sensor (we provide one model, but you can do with differents kinds of hardware) or if your cooler device has a software interface, you can get data from it using a Pandora FMS agent or remotely with a Pandora FMS plugin. Use a external hardware sensor is an easy and faster way.

There is also public information on how to build your own sensor based on an arduino (free hardware). Check our documentation in openideas.info/wiki

To get a “news” in the network map front is just a very easy hack.
