How to choose a server able to host Pandora?
Posted by Robb11 on February 10, 2009 at 03:04Hi all,
I’m going to set up a new Pandora Server. In order to do it, I’m going to ask to my Company for a server to host it.
I should suggest a server with the correct CPU frequency and RAM.
Have you found an algorithm or an heuristic way to determine it? I know it is not so simple to determine it.
I appreciate even your experience about [server capabilities/number of hosts monitored].Thank you very much,
Robb.

Hi Rob.
How many agents are you gonna to monitor? How many modules? The database server and the pandora server will be in the same server?
This are my number:
Monitor Checks:
Monitor checks 158
Alerts Total 18Data checks
Data Checks 648
Alerts Total 106Summary
Total Agents 38
Total Checks 806My Pandora Server is a Virtual Machine (installed by myself, not the ubuntu image) inside an VmWare ESX Cluster (2 Sun X4150). The Database is in another Virtual Machine in the same ESX Cluster. The performance is pretty good. The virtual machines are not Pandora exclusive.

Well. You are in right. Here are the actual numbers.
Monitor checks 363
Alerts Total 62
Data checks 348
Alerts Total 4Summary
Total agents 36
Total checks 711
Alerts defined 66Now I am using a Desktop PC with 256 Mb of RAM! 😀
Server, Recon & DB are on the same server now. Thanks a lot for your answer! The “problem” is that new numbers could be four or five times these numbers…
