Public Administration IT Monitoring

Public Administrations must offer certain services to citizens 24/7, 365 days a year. The impact of a failure or service degradation may entail economic and reputational repercussions, so it is vital to be able to monitor the final service citizens obtain, as well as the internal performance of each infrastructure element.

Madrid Digital is the Agency for Digital Administration of Madrid region. Its main objective is to ensure that the needs of computer equipment, communications, applications and security of the different departments and institutions of this public entity are met, in addition to managing and maintaining physical and logical equipment for information management.

What is not measured, does not exist… that is why our main need was precisely to obtain accurate metrics and indicators to manage our technology park with confidence. We needed a permanent strategic vision of our infrastructures and services, since we have a large amount of information systems, applications and technology.

After carrying out several concept tests with different platforms, we chose Pandora FMS, a flexible tool that has managed to integrate our specific needs on a single place and for a reasonable price. Pandora FMS has the level of depth and maintenance that we expected, it has managed to become integrated with the different technological platforms that support our services in Madrid Regional Administration.

The Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Society is the governing body for the development of technologies and communications in Ecuador. Its scope of action ranges from telecommunications or the radioelectric spectrum, to the coordination of activities with actors of strategic sectors to ensure equal access to IT services for Ecuadorian population..

Previously, we had another monitoring tool, but it did not include all the features that we needed. Pandora FMS has become our main monitoring solution, since it provides an user-friendly management and interface, excellent support and a much lower cost compared to its competitors.

Implementation with Pandora FMS was very simple and the results have become clear quickly: now we have a visual monitoring system that allows us to adjust thresholds, implement customized modules and measure services.

What is Public Administration monitoring?

Public Administration monitoring consists of supervising Public Administration IT infrastructures. Given the wide scope and deep technical demands of the sector, this will encompass devices, networks, applications, services, etc.

What do you need to keep in mind?

Public Administration IT monitoring will have an impact on something as important as the quality of the services offered to citizens. To carry it out, it will be necessary for the monitoring software to be used to comply with certain characteristics.

  • Given the sectorā€™s high demands, the monitoring tool must offer the technical features that allow it to monitor large infrastructures made up of tens of thousands of nodes and continue to scale if necessary.

  • Public Administration IT can be large and very complex. That is why, the possibility of having a software that unifies all monitoring in a single tool will be a valuable helping hand to technicians and will represent significant savings for public coffers.
  • Due to the need to supervise possible critical services, the software must offer the necessary tools to reduce the diagnosis time of the problems that may arise. In addition, it will be very helpful to have a good support team to assist in its management.
What does monitoring bring in to Public Administrations?

Public Administrations fulfill essential functions for citizens. Therefore, monitoring the IT that helps them carry out such a relevant activity becomes a very important task.

Interruptions or performance loss of the technologies involved can directly affect citizens in the event of failures or service impairments. Monitoring will be key in preventing incidents or helping solve them as soon as possible -in case they are unavoidable- allowing the Public Administration to work better.
