    Hi!

We’re using Pandora FMS 3.0 on a Ubuntu 10.04 Server machine. We installed it using the .deb packages one can download from Sourceforge. When I open Pandora in the browser the bottom line says: Pandora FMS v3.0 – Build PC091228

In Administration -> Setup I have enabled the automatic update check and Pandora tells me on the front page “There’s a new update for Pandora”. Clicking on the link it tells my that my system version number is 0 and that a new version with id 19 is available.

If I click on Update the page basically stays the same with just one line saying “UPDATING…” but still telling me about the new version available and still offering an update link. Nothing more happens after that, i.e. Pandora does not update and does not print any error.

What is going wrong here? How can I find out what the problem is? What can I do to update Pandora from the console?

Is there a way to update Pandora manually (i.e. by downloading files and installing them on the server)? Looking on Sourceforge it seems there is only version 3.0 available. However, as Pandora tells me about the update, where can I find files newer than 3.0?

    Thanks in advance!

    Florian

Update: To make this clear: We are using the free version of Pandora. If this update feature is enterprise-only, the description on the update page is not very clear (in my opinion) and it should be clarified that this feature will not work in a free version or -even better- the Update link/button should not be available. But still, my question is: Where can I find updates to Pandora for a manual update?

    Hi Florian,

As you suspected, it is an enterprise feature, but you can find documentation regarding upgrades here:

    Ah, ok. But:

    1. As the console tells me about an possible update, I assume there is a newer version available. The question is (which also the above article does not provide the answer to), where can I get the new version? At

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/pandora/files/Pandora%20FMS%203.0/Final%20version%20%28Stable%29/

there is only version 3.0.0 available, which I have installed. Even the sources are 3.0.0. Where can I get a newer version?

    2. Why is the update manager installed in the Free version? It can be activated and tells me about the possible update. Also the text on the update page is not clear that this feature will not work in the free version (it just tells me that update in Enterprise works automatically, which means to me that I do not even have to click Update in Enterprise anymore). So I assume, having the free version the update is not automatic. I have to click on Update myself. Which I can do and which makes Pandora tell me it is “Updating…”

I hope you can see that at least I was very confused about this feature. It should be made more clear that Update will not work in the free version.

It doesn’t mean there is a new version, just updates to the current one (usually small bug fixes). It’s there for critical environments where people may not want to wait for the next release.

Anyway you can always get the latest code from the project’s subversion repository and manually update Pandora. But it’s usually not worth it.

It does seem a bit confusing, you can open a bug in the project’s tracker http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=155200&atid=794852 and I’m sure the console devs will make it clearer 🙂
