Alert when windows agent out of limits / last contact
Posted by marvinh on January 20, 2010 at 20:24Hello, i’ve been looking on the forum and google… but i can’t find a solution at the following problem.
Using the agent on windows 2003 server….
How can i send a alert to an email address when a windows agent doesn’t send any information? In the console there will be an “Out of Limits” sign and the last contact will be in red. How to activate a alert when this happens?
Thanks…
Marvin

Hi Marvin,
You need to use the “keepalive” module, check the docs for more information, basically is an special module who change it’s status when you don’t get information from the agent (remote or by software agent) in interval x 2 seconds.

I’ve installed keepalived on my server, but can’t figure out how to monitor a windows agent that is not on my network. How can i check if a windows server with the agent installed has send status updates within the given time?
The server is at an other company behind a firewall, the port 41121 is open so the server can send the data through the internet to my Pandora server. Maybe someone has en example of a configuration file voor keepalived?

I was talking about an special module type in pandora called “Keepalive”, who set to CRITICAL when no data are received from the agent, past the agent interval multiplied by 2.

This alert is working well and I’m able to send email for alert and recovery. I would like to go further by having the emails sent only if after 5 minutes, the agent is not responding. How should I do that? I played with the min max feature but it does not seem to work or I am not using it correctly, any clues?
Thanks.
